History

Presbyterian Church of Utica

In 1956, sponsored by Centerline Presbyterian Church, a group of people began meeting in their homes with the intentions of forming a church.  On June 15, 1958, the church with 84 charter members and Rev. Taylor as organizing pastor, the Presbyterian Church of Utica became part of the United Presbyterian Church.  They then began meeting at Wiley Elementary School and then on to Dresden Elementary. The cornerstone of the Chapel was laid on October 23, 1960 with the first service held there on February 12, 1961.  Subsequent additions include the Educational and Office Wing, was completed on October 20, 1967.  The second addition, consisting of Agape Hall, Toddler Room, and Narthex, was dedicated on December 16, 1979.  There were two worship services, 9:30 am and 11:00 am each Sunday morning with Church School.

Peace United Presbyterian Church

Peace owes its lineage to the dedication of members of mission start up churches.  The first began in 1956 as the Kingswood Presbyterian Church.  A seperate congregation was organized in 1962 as Hope Presbyterian.  In 1962, the two congregations merged as Hope-Kingswood.  On Easter Sunday April 9, 1967, the new facility of Peace Presbyterian was dedicated at 17345 Fifteen Mile Road.

New Life Presbyterian Church

Around 2010, discussions began with the Pastor of Presbyterian Church of Utica with the leaders at Peace Presbyterian about being the supply pastor- Peace hadn’t had a pastor for several years.  After many conversations and lots of prayers, with God’s guidance, and approval of the Detroit Presbytery, it was approved to combine the two churches into one.  In August 31, 2011, the merger became official.  With the assistance of the Rev. Jill Mills, the two campuses were combined at what is now New Life Presbyterian Church location. We have defined our mission for the future, and are now beginning the search process for an installed pastor who will serve with us as we go forward to answer God's call!
